The moments before Blink 182 announced their reunion

Mark blogged about it:
It was a completely amazing and hectic night, and to be honest, we almost didn’t make it.

Five minutes before we were supposed to go on, Tom still wasn’t there. The car that had been arranged to bring him to the show never showed up. And backstage, people were starting to freak. “Alright, blink-182 please follow me to the stage.” “We can’t yet. Tom isn’t here.” “Where is he?” “He’s not here.” “Is he in the building?” “I don’t think so.” “Do you know where he is?” “Last I heard he was walking here from his hotel.” “He’s walking to the Staples Center from his hotel? Does he know where he’s going?” “I doubt it, he’s not from here…” (in the background) “Wait wait wait, if you’re headed toward the convention center, you’re going the WRONG WAY. You need to turn around…” The kind of thing that the producers of the Grammy’s really don’t want to hear five minutes before you’re supposed to be on the air for a live broadcast watched by tens of millions of people.

But then, just as those in charge were about to pull us from the show, Tom walked in and they rushed us off to a small crowded room backstage. People yelled about getting us into place. Our manager took a photo. Jason Mraz introduced himself and said congratulations. We stood backstage for a minute while the Jonas Brothers and Stevie Wonder played. Then time slowed down and we took just a second to realize that in the space of a few months we went from three guys never speaking, to moments away from walking onstage for the first time together in four years. To announce the continuation of the band we spent more than a decade touring and recording in. In front of millions of people. The moment was poignant and exciting and scary and then all of a sudden someone says, “GO GO GO!!!” and we walk out.

Only thing is, we can’t hear anything because of the music and crowd. Some people are cheering. Some people are looking at us like we’re there to move the stage sets. But there is no podium. None. Nothing. Nowhere to stand. No podium. No desk. No beautiful model motioning us where to go. No tape-marked “X” marking the spot. Just an open stage and whole lot of people watching us. I walk out first and have NO CLUE where we’re supposed to be. I look helplessly at a cameraman. His camera has a red light on it. We’re live on TV. Damn this is a big arena. Where the hell are we supposed to go?!?! Whoa, I just saw Diddy!! I wander around aimlessly for a few seconds before nearly walking directly into the microphone rising up out of the floor. I almost put an end to that thing. Seriously. Deep breath.

We start talking and coldplay wins the award and it’s over.

Just like that.

We leave before the show is over to have sushi and a few drinks before going out to the parties, laughing, shaking hands, meeting people, seeing old friends and whatever else people do after they present awards at the Grammy’s. It was one of the greatest nights of my life. I’m so glad blink-182 is back. I love playing music with my friends. And yeah, that night was also a little strange. The whole thing is still a little strange. We’re excited and energized and ready to get these song ideas recorded and out to the world and hit the road touring and everything else. And at the same time we’re still reconnecting as friends and musicians. It’s an amazing process. For better or worse, anyone who saw us on the Grammy’s that night saw it all happen in the 15 seconds we were on stage. I don’t know, maybe we’re the most surprised of all.

"I talk to Tom several times a week, sometimes several times a day" - Mark Hoppus

Ok honestly I never got my hopes up or believed in a Blink 182 reunion.Lately there have been developments were you maybe think that its kinda strange and pointing into that direction. But obviously Tom is really focused on Angels & Airwaves and the end of Blink wasn't something everyone of the three guys would just forget to do a reunion tour.

Now there's Marks blog post,a new merch store on blink182.com,the label on blink182.com was changed, sadly +44 is totally dead AND they're all on talking terms.
There is definately hope at this point.

Yesterday the on 9th of January MTV.com published an exclusive interview with Mark Hoppus.
Here's the link to the article!

A quick summary of the article:

- it's part 1 of a 2 part interview
- he thinks a reunion would only be possible if they become close friends again
- his friendship to Tom is starting to grow a lot lately
- he says that IF Blink were to reform it would have to be the most mind blowing, ridiculous and amazing show
- the end of the article says that he will announce something surprising about his "other" band +44 in the second part of the interview which MTV will publish on wednesday

Here's what I think: Put aside some money for an incredible reunion tour of Blink 182 in late 09 or 2010.Mark wants it so bad you can really feel it.Travis in my opinion would do it if Mark and Tom want it so it depends on Tom in my eyes.

Regarding +44:My guess is that they will either announce their breakup, the comeback of Carol Heller and Craig and Shane leaving or a new record being released really soon.

eventhough I hope for atleast the reunion tour of Blink 182 it still would suck if Angels or +44 would stop making music together.

Oh and why do I care so much about those guys?Because they made my youth what it was!

To be continued ...

Updates from Travis

Thank you

I want to give my deepest thanks to everyone who has helped deal with the current situation. First and foremost, Chris and Che were my friends. I would give up anything to have them here with us today, healthy and happy. To call them my employees does them such a disservice, as they were so much more than that. Chris was my best friend before anything else, and I can never put into words how much he will be missed. Che was an amazing person as well, and I was honored to have him in my life.

I am simply amazed and will be forever grateful for all the support everyone has shown to Chris and Che's families. Its a testament to how many lives they touched in a positive way.

Hospital Life!

Like the doctors said from the beginning, its been a slow recovery process. I am coming up on the 7th of my surgeries Monday. Today I finally was able to move all my fingers on my right hand. Every step seems huge at this point, and Im doing EVERYTHING I can possibly do to get back to my kids. Yes, I did start eating meat again, but if it helps me to be home holding my little humans sooner, then its all worth it. The staff here are all bomb! Dr. Grossman and his staff are the best. The BOSS Barbara, and nurses Betty, Jay , Emily, Julio, Lolita, and Stephanie (with the best scrubs ever!) are all taking the best care of me.

My good friend Armen has been kind enough to save me from the hospital food, and brings Jamba Juice, Wahoos, or whatever else I need to keep my calories and protein levels high.

Despite any rumors you might have heard, Ive been treated amazingly well, both here in LA and in Georgia. The hospitals Ive been treated at are THE BEST.

My friends and family have been amazing. My pops has been with me ANY time I need him. My sisters, James, Skinhead Rob, Daniel, Armen and of course Ricardo and Nicole, have all shown amazing support. JD and Mark Hoppus both took the time to come visit and offer their support as well. Estevan Oriol even came in with a calendar.

Saying "thank you" to all these guys just wouldn't be enough...

I got to see AM the other day. Seeing him after he was discharged was an inspiration. I saw just how awesome the doctors' work here is, and got to see how well he is doing. I am so happy to see him doing well, and we are both so lucky and grateful that we are alive today.

Im even using some of this time to help design the summer '09 Famous line. Maxx, Jose, Bill have been awesome helping to keep the machine going. These are some seriously dedicated people, and Im lucky to call them friends.

Now Im just counting the days until I can leave. I cant wait to get home to play drums with my son, and go for bike rides with my daughter. I cant wait to see the pictures from Landon's "Jack and Sally Nightmare Before Christmas" birthday party that we had for him today. I am bummed that I couldn't be there, but thank God Ill be around to see many, many more.

Thank you everyone for your support!

Hospital Update

Just another quick one to let everyone know that I think Im getting out of the hospital soon :) I can't wait to get out of here and be home with the babes. The doctors say Im healing up quickly and I'm gonna be out of here b4 you know it.

Game and Sticks stopped in to give their best wishes today...
Yoko from Matsuhisa (MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT!) brought some food in for us. She is such a sweetheart and so nice to take the time to bring me some rad food.
James, Skinhead Rob, my pops and aunt all stopped in again.

The staff here is THE BEST, but this is what I have to say to hospital life:

Update on Travis and Adam

Full Recovery Expected for Barker and DJ AM

A doctor has announced that Travis Barker and DJ AM are expected to have a full recovery after yesterday's horrific plane crash.

Barker and Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein were severely burned yesterday when their Learjet crashed before takeoff from a Columbia, South Carolina airport. The crash killed four people, including Barker's assistant Chris Baker.

Dr. Fred Mullins, medical director of the Joseph M. Still Burn Center, said both Travis and Adam suffered second and third-degree burns. Mullins said Barker's torso and Adam's hands and part of his head were burned.

Tragic news

Life is a fragile thing!
What's hard about this is that I met Chris back in '06 at the +44 show in Berlin. He walked around putting up FSAS stickers. When two of my friends helped him with a big one he promised us to get Travis to come outside of the venue while the opening act plays. That kinda didn't work out but right when +44 came on stage he was searching for us and gave us drumsticks and other stuff.Basically it seemed like Lil' Chris was a super nice guy and he didn't deserve that.RIP.

Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and Adam Goldstein, known as celebrity DJ AM, were critically injured in a fiery Learjet crash in South Carolina that killed four Southern Californians, including Barker's bodyguard and his personal assistant, authorities said.

The pilot, Sarah Lemmon of Anaheim Hills, and copilot, James Bland of Carlsbad, were also killed, according to the Lexington County coroner.

The Learjet was taking off shortly before midnight Friday with six people aboard when air traffic controllers saw sparks. The plane, which was en route to Van Nuys airport, veered off the end of the runway, through a grassy area and a perimeter fence, slammed into a berm and became engulfed in a "significant fire," said Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen.
Barker and Goldstein were in critical but stable condition this afternoon at Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Ga., about 75 miles southwest of the crash site in Columbia, S.C., said hospital spokeswoman Beth Frits. She declined to comment on their injuries.

Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles -- both members of Baker's entourage -- were among the dead.

According to music industry sources, Charles "Che" Still was a longtime friend of Barker's and sometimes worked as a bodyguard when the star drummer performed in small shows. Barker and Goldstein had performed together under the name TRVSDJ-AM at a free concert in Columbia on Friday night.

Baker, nicknamed "Little Chris," worked as a personal assistant to Barker and had appeared sometimes on MTV's "Meet the Barkers" the domestic-life reality show that aired in 2005 and 2006.

Michael Creger, a friend of Still, said the bodyguard's family was reeling from the news. They were upset, too, that early media reports of the accident focused on the injured Barker instead of the dead passengers. Still's family had thought the group in South Carolina would be returning home on a commercial flight, but travel plans apparently had changed.

The athletic Still was "a gentle giant" who aspired to be a professional athlete and had been working part time for Barker, Creger said. He was a "huge music fan" who, with his tattoos and stature, was an imposing figure to strangers. His friends, however, knew him as "a loving guy, the kind of guy would do anything for anybody," Creger said.

"His mother in Riverside is just devastated by this because Che's dad died not long ago also," Creger said.

At the crash site today, the air was still heavy with the odor of jet fuel. A trail of black soot led off a runway, across a five-lane road next to the airport and up an embankment. The nose of the aircraft was gone and the roof was missing from two-thirds of the charred plane.

An investigative team from the National Transportation Safety Board has been dispatched to South Carolina.

"It's absolutely terrible and tragic," Columbia Mayor Bob Coble said.

The plane is owned by Global Exec Aviation, a Long Beach-based charter company, and was certified to operate last year, an NTSB official said.

Mark Shater, spokesman for the charter company, declined to comment on the crash or the pilots. He said the company is sending a management team to South Carolina to cooperate with the FAA and the NTSB.
